Pre-schoolers pointed out the art of Micawber the squirrel during Read Across America and Celebrity Reading activities at the St. Charles Children’s Learning Center as the College of Southern Maryland. Reading to the children is Charles County Board of Education Chair Roberta Wise

As part of Read Across America activities in March, pre-schoolers at the St. Charles Children's Learning Center at the College of Southern Maryland enjoyed the antics of an artsy squirrel and other critters courtesy of Charles County Board of Education committee members Roberta Wise and Patricia Bowie.

Wise and Bowie were Celebrity Readers at the CLC, visiting on March 1 and 2, reading favorite stories with the children. Among the books were “Mrs. Spitzer’s Garden” and “Micawber” read by Wise, “The Glittery Crittery Counting Book,” “Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar?” and “The Whistle on the Train” read by Bowie.

The St. Charles Children’s Learning Center at CSM features Celebrity Readers throughout the year. Celebrating its fifth anniversary where learning is child's play, the Children's Learning Center nurtures and enhances the lives of children and their parents by creating an environment that helps children interact with their world and peers, and building confidence, self-esteem and a life-long love of learning.

The center is currently enrolling students for its summer day camp, for ages 2 through 12. For information about the Children's Learning Center, visit www.csmd.edu/clc/ or call 301-934-7871.
