Eleven high school pianists will be competing in the third annual Southern Maryland Regional Piano Competition (SMRPC) at the College of Southern Maryland’s Prince Frederick Campus. The high-level juried competition is open to any high school student within the region as an opportunity to promote piano performance and reward and encourage young pianists within Southern Maryland.

The competition is made possible through the generous support of individuals, organizations and businesses, including Nick Garrett of the Garrett Music Academy, who has provided $1,000 at the Benefactor level for this year’s event. Other sponsors include the CSM Foundation as a Benefactor, and Patrons JoAnn and Mark Kushner, Maryland Bank and Trust, Susan and Frank Taylor, Nancy and Henry “Bud” Virts, and Donna Wayson.

Students will compete on April 16, with the finalists performing at 3 p.m., April 17 with guest artist Dr. Sheldon Goldberg at CSM’s Prince Frederick Campus, 115 J. W. Williams Road, Prince Frederick. The concert is free. For information, visit http://www.csmd.edu/SoMdPianoCompetition.
