July Events at College of Southern Maryland

The College of Southern Maryland presents three evenings the Maryland Humanities program of Chautauqua, focusing on the theme of “Seeking Justice,” July 10, 11 and 12. The programs will begin with music at 6:45 p.m. at the La Plata Campus, Fine Arts (FA) Building, Theatre, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. The historical figures to be portrayed include Frederick Douglass, Eleanor Roosevelt and Thurgood Marshall. Chautauqua is presented by Maryland Humanities in partnership with CSM with support from Old Line Bank. CSM Observes Code Green Friday. Fridays, July 6 through Aug. 3. College of Southern Maryland, all campuses. In an effort to decrease energy costs during the summer months, CSM ran a Code Green initiative starting May 25 and continuing each Friday through Aug. 3. During Code Green days, most CSM buildings and services close at 1:30 on Fridays and remain closed throughout the weekend. Code Green will be observed for the last time this year on Aug. 3. Code Green does not affect the St. Charles’ Children’s Learning Center, CSM Kids’ and Teen College programs or the CSM Public Safety and Preparedness team. 301-934-2251.

This year’s program follows the theme “seeking justice.” The first African American Supreme Court Justice, Thurgood Marshall, will be portrayed in this final presentation of this year’s series. CSM Open House at Regional Hughesville Campus. 10 a.m.-2 p.m., July 28. College of Southern Maryland, Regional Hughesville Campus, Center for Trades & Energy Training (CT) Building, 6170 Hughesville Station Place, Hughesville (for driving directions, use the address: 83-99 Foster Lane, Hughesville, MD 20637). The college’s Regional Hughesville Campus will hold an open house where visitors can tour the facility and learn more about the college’s trades programs and credit programs, in addition to information about financial aid, transportation programs, business and technology programs and health sciences programs.
