CSM Names Tony Jernigan as its Vice President of Financial, Administrative Services

The College of Southern Maryland announces the selection of Tony R. Jernigan as its vice president of financial and administrative services. Jernigan brings 23 years of leadership in private and public college administration including experience in finance, budgeting, human resources, investments, facilities, strategic planning and auxiliary services.

“I fully believe in the community college mission to make post-secondary education accessible and affordable,” said Jernigan. “Community colleges can and do change the lives of those people that attend, and they are a significant economic development resource for the community in which they are located. I found CSM to be perfectly situated to accomplish all of these and I found the administration committed to making CSM the best college possible.”

Most recently vice president of finance at Greensboro College, Greensboro, NC, Jernigan was also associated with Nash Community College, Rocky Mount, NC, for more than 20 years, serving as the chief financial and administrative officer at Nash Community College until 2007. Previously he worked in the Office of the North Carolina State Auditor, as a systems accountant and a staff auditor.

Jernigan is a former member of the executive committee of the North Carolina Association of Community College Business Officials, serving as its president vice president and treasurer. He also was a finance evaluator for the Council on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and a representative on the Northeast Region Council of Government Economic Development Board.

A certified public accountant since 1981, Jernigan received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has completed post-baccalaureate studies at North Carolina State University and East Carolina University.

A member of Rotary International, Jernigan lives in Waldorf and has two children, a daughter, who is a research assistant at the Brodie School of Medicine in Greenville, NC, and a son, who is a senior at NC State University studying computer engineering.
