“Chaney Enterprises has partnered with the College of Southern Maryland to build the region’s future workforce within the trades and transportation industries. Through the Chaney Foundation, $100,000 has been pledged over five years to the college’s “Campaign for the Next 50 Years,” to provide enhancements to the college's trades and transportation programs.

“Education has always been a core value for me and my family, and on behalf of the Foundation Board, we are pleased to provide this grant to support the College of Southern Maryland’s expansion of technical and workforce training, so important to our industry, and overall to our region’s economy,” said Frank Chaney, chairman of The Chaney Foundation.

“Chartered in 1987 as a memorial to Eugene Chaney of Lothian who died in 1987, The Chaney Foundation makes gifts, donations or contributions to legitimate charitable organizations who support children and youth; arts, history and culture; education; environment, and health care and education.

“A longtime partner with the college, Chaney Enterprises has been involved in the college’s truck driver program since its inception nearly 20 years ago to address the needs of local companies in search of drivers trained to operate commercial vehicles.

“Chaney Enterprises has been a strong advocate of the college and a believer in supporting educational opportunities for the community through scholarships, equipment donations for training purposes, and the essential funds to further develop our programs,” said CSM President Dr. Brad Gottfried. “It’s an exciting time for the college as enrollments continue to grow and we seek ways to meet the growing demands of our students and employers. In the case of trades and transportation, the need to expand has been critical and challenging, and is being accomplished by such partnerships as that which we have with Chaney Enterprises who continue to support us with donations of equipment and funds as well as their expertise as we develop programs to help our workforce advance their careers in transportation, construction and the trades.”

The CSM Foundation’s “Campaign for the Next 50 Years” raised more than $7.7 million in support of key college initiatives including Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs, and Trades and Transportation, as well as to address local nursing and healthcare workforce shortages, focus on educational excellence, and endow a student scholarship fund for access and success.
