U.S. Congressman Chris Van Hollen

Candidate Visits with Local Officials, Leaders, Trustees at La Plata Campus

U.S. Congressman Chris Van Hollen, a U.S. Senator candidate, visited the College of Southern Maryland?s La Plata Campus during a swing through Charles County July 21 and talked with local elected officials, business and community leaders, college trustees, administrators and foundation directors. The congressman said he wanted to visit CSM ?because everywhere I go in Charles County, and in Southern Maryland, you hear about the importance of the College of Southern Maryland.?

Van Hollen told the nearly 40 people gathered that it has been his experience that two-year colleges provide an ?absolutely vital program, in and of themselves.? He complimented the college on the new Regional Campus. ?What you are doing in Hughesville with some of the trades program is something that I think is absolutely essential,? he said. The first phase of the campus is the construction of a 30,000-square-foot Center for Trades and Energy Training.
