Tony Hungerford Memorial Gallery Talk: Paintings by Gladys Goldstein from the UMUC Collection. Noon, Nov. 15, College of Southern Maryland, Fine Arts Center, Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery, La Plata Campus, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. Gladys Goldstein passed away last year at the age of 92 and was a painter for more than six decades. Brian Young, curator for the University of Maryland University College, will present Goldsteins collection. Goldstein wrote, “My canvases are not explicit statements, but hints of things that are, or were, or might have been – of memories, of feelings.” She further explained in The Evening Sun (Baltimore) that the meaning of an abstract painting is “to take the essence of something. The flower is in the garden. It can never be on the paper. You painted only an impression of the flower.” The exhibition is a celebration of her enduring career and is drawn from the holdings of the University of Maryland University College. The collection will be on display Oct. 28 Dec. 21. Free. Hours and exhibit information at http://www.csmd.edu/Arts/HungerfordGallery.html. 301-934-7828 or BxOffc@csmd.edu.
