CSM Promoting Student Success: The First Year and Beyond. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Oct. 23, College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Center for Business and Industry, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. A one-day regional conference to promote student success for college freshmen through seniors. Opportunities to hear presentations on a wide range of topics in teaching approaches and strategies, student preparedness, technology and general interest tracks, and to interact with peers from other institutions. Keynote speaker is Executive Director of Quality Matters Dr. Ron Legon, Provost Emeritus at the University of Baltimore (UB) who over the past 40 years has taught history and humanities at Brooklyn College, the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Chicago and most recently at UB where he teaches online, hybrid and face-to-face courses. $80, $100 after Oct. 15.
