Author and a former educator who worked with children in the Prince George’s County Public School (PGCPS) system, Martha Lane of La Plata visited the St. Charles Children’s Learning Center at the College of Southern Maryland as a “Celebrity Reader” Nov. 1. In her previous role at PGCPS, Lane served as the director of before and after care.

Lane read her book, a children’s introduction to poetry, “The Letter E Leaves the Alphabet,” which relates the story of what happens when E wants to be first in the alphabet. Following the reading she answered children’s questions and took a tour of the center.

The Children's Learning Center nurtures and enhances the lives of children and their parents by creating an environment that helps children interact with their world and peers, and building confidence, self-esteem and a life-long love of learning.
