From left, volunteer assistant Kyle Beckett and students Blake Ross, Jordan Goldstein and Stephen Nyce work on perfecting their sling-shots trajectory as they practice hitting a target with water balloons during the College of Southern Marylands Kids and Teen College Engineering and Robotics Challenge camp. Trajectory was just one of the challenges posed to students during this pre-engineering workshop co-sponsored by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division. Nyce is one of several students hoping the college will offer an advanced level of the workshop next year. It was challenging learning how to work and target the trajectory of the electric gun and water balloon canons but I would love to take [level 2] and see what else we can do. This fall, CSMs Kids/Teen College Saturday Discoveries is offering three new all-day conferences, for students ages 11 14, in science and technology. Class offerings differ by campus. Student Jordan Goldstein discusses design elements with Indian Head Commander Neil Stubits on the closing day of the College of Southern Marylands Kids and Teen Colleges Engineering and Robotics Challenge camp, a pre-engineering workshop co-sponsored by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division. Goldstein (13) is a student at Mill Creek Middle School and wants to become an engineer in the future. I want to go to MIT and study environmental engineering. Im very competitive and my mom knew this class would be challenging for me. If they have [this class] again next year, it would be amazing to have the freedom to design any kind of robot we want.
