
CSM Hosts Workshops to Help with Federal Aid Forms

CSM Financial Assistance Director Chris Zimmermann, left, wants students to be informed on options to finance college so he took to the airwaves in a program on just that topic. “Ways to Pay for College,” produced by Frank Batavick, of Maryland Public Television (MPT), outlines the numerous ways that students can pay for college and provides tips on filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is the first step in applying for federal, state, local, non-profit and corporate scholarships and grants. CSM Financial Aid/FAFSA Workshop. 1 to 3 p.m., Jan. 24. College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Francis P. Chiaramonte, MD Center for Science and Technology (ST) Building, Chesapeake-Potomac Healthcare Atrium, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. During this workshop, CSM staff will guide parents and students in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application which determines a family's eligibility for financial assistance and must be submitted for students to be competitive for financial aid and scholarships at all academic institutions. Prior to event, attendees should obtain a pin number and complete a pre-application worksheet through http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/, and bring student and parent records such as social security numbers, 2014 federal income tax returns, 2014 W-2 statements and untaxed income records such as Social Security, TANF, SNAP and VA benefits.
