Drawings by artist Janice Knipe are on display in CSMs Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery located in the Fine Arts Center on the La Plata Campus through Nov. 9. Knipe taught art classes for 25 years at Hollins College in Roanoke, Va. and said of drawing, I love drawing. I dont love it a little, I love it passionately. Knipe believes that drawing is a direct and honest medium and in working on her drawings she looks at the space around her subject in order to get a complete feel for the essential relationships the object holds in space. When asked by an audience member how she selects a location for a drawing Knipe explains that she looks for geometry and light and she returns to the same place over and over again to form a friendship and an identity of that particular location, which she believes is something that must be developed over time and cannot be acquired after only one visit. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday. For information visit http://www.csmd.edu/Arts.
