Debra Salamon to Speak at Women + Math Event

Event to Get Girls Thinking about Careers that Rely Heavily on Math

The College of Southern Maryland will welcome its keynote speaker Debra Salamon as part of its 10th annual Women + Math career exploration event. The event, which takes place on April 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the La Plata Campus in the Center for Business and Industry (BI Building), will give participants an opportunity to hear from women who have successful careers in fields that draw heavily on math. The event is free and open to girls ages 13 and older, as well as parents and educators.

Salamon graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering after which she entered NAVAIR's Engineering Scientist Development Program as a helicopter aeromechanics flight test engineer. She planned and executed dozens of flight tests on various helicopter platforms including the Seahawk, Huey, Cobra and presidential helicopter. While working full time she earned a master’s degree in engineering management from Florida Institute of Technology.

In 2006, Salamon graduated from the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School Rotary Wing Long Course. She has worked as the Human Systems test lead for all NAVAIR aircraft and as the assistant program manager for Test and Evaluation for the AIR Antisubmarine Warfare (ASW) Program Office and for the Multi-mission Helicopter Program Office. Currently, she is the lead test engineer of the Marine Corps CH53K Heavy Lift Helicopter Integrated Test Team.
