The College of Southern Maryland’s (CSM) Women’s Basketball team finished runner-up to the champion Chesapeake College Skipjacks in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XX Tournament Sunday, March 10. Finishing with a record of 15-12, the Lady Hawks “showed a lot of grit and toughness throughout the whole season,” according to their coach.
“Our team started off the season with the aspiration of competing for a Region XX Championship and have fought all year through injuries and many obstacles and stayed focus on that task,” shared CSM Women’s Basketball Head Coach Ardell Jackson. “It was proven this past weekend in the NJCAA Region XX tournament. We came into the tournament as a #7 seed, but always believed from the beginning of the season that we were one of the top teams in our region and wanted to prove that in the tournament.”

“Their preparation going in this tournament was just amazing,” he said. “The focus and determination from each player and coaches was tremendous. I am so proud of our team and what we were able to accomplish. Our players really pushed the bar high to continue to build off this success.”
In terms of what made the season stand out, Jackson credits the players and his assistant coaches. “Everything stood out for us,” he added. “All the credit goes to the players and my assistant coaches. They worked extremely hard and executed the game plan and I am just so proud of them. This was a fantastic season and I look forward to what the future holds for our program.”
