
The College of Southern Maryland welcomes baritone Michael K. Santana to perform at the Ward Virts Concert Series at 3 p.m., May 4 at the Prince Frederick Campus, Building B Mulitpurpose Room. The performance is the last of six in the concert series, which is held at CSMs Prince Frederick Campus, 115 J.W. Williams Road, Prince Frederick.
Santana, a gifted and highly versatile performer of vocal music, has more than 20 years of experience as a music educator. He earned his bachelors degree in music education and vocal/piano performance from Longwood University. He teaches voice and piano in Southern Maryland with a studio in his home in Waldorf. His specialty is helping high school students prepare for college auditions in the performing arts. Santanas voice and piano students have gone on to prestigious schools such as the Juilliard School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, Boston Conservatory and New England Conservatory.
Santana served as director of vocal and keyboard activities at the Suitland Performing Arts Center and has served as organist and choir director with several churches in Southern Maryland and Virginia. He is choir director for Pilgrim Church United Church of Christ in Wheaton as well as a freelance bass/baritone and accompanist.
An adjunct instructor in music at CSM, Santana teaches music appreciation and is a vocal coach, accompanist and music director for CSM Theatre productions. He is the music director of the Chesapeake Choral Arts Society, a community chorus with activities throughout the year throughout the area.
The Ward Virts Concert Series is presented by Edward and Patricia Mehosky, St. Clair and Mary Tweedie, Gerry Van De Velde and Rene Cunningham, and CSM. The centerpiece of the concert series is a world-class Boesendorfer Grand Piano, which was gifted to CSM by the Ward Virts Piano Project as a gift to the entire community.
