CSM Theatre to Hold Open Auditions

Two Spring Productions Seek Cast Members

The College of Southern Maryland is holding open auditions for the upcoming productions “But I Said No” and “Lysistrata” beginning at 6 p.m. Jan. 27 and 28 at the Fine Arts Center on the La Plata Campus, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. Those auditioning must prepare a one-minute monologue. The auditions are open for community members ages 18 and older.

CSM Cause Theatre will present “But I Said No” March 12-29 on all three campuses. This educational theater piece on acquaintance rape has received national acclaim and has toured extensively on college campuses throughout the country.

CSM’s Renaissance Festival will present “Lysistrata” April 25 and 26 at the La Plata Campus. “Lysistrata” is among the few surviving plays written by Aristophanes. Originally performed in Athens in 411 BC, it is a comic account of one woman’s extraordinary mission to end the Peloponnesian War. The play is notable for being an early expose of sexual relations in a male-dominated society.

To schedule an audition, contact Keith Hight, CSM’s coordinator for theatre and dance, hhight@csmd.edu or 301-934-7827. Auditions for summer productions will take place May 12 and 13. For information on the arts, visit www.csmd.edu/Arts.
