CSM Seeks Community's Support of Student Success through #GivingTuesday

Online Giving Event Dec. 3 is Part of Global Holiday Tradition

The College of Southern Maryland Foundation is joining thousands of nonprofits across the world Dec. 3, in observance of the second annual #GivingTuesday, a movement that celebrates a day dedicated to giving using the power of social media.

“With a goal of raising $3,000 and reaching 200 online supporters, CSM is looking to make a significant impact on our students and reaching far beyond our campus,” said CSM Vice President of Advancement Michelle Goodwin.

#GivingTuesday is an international day of generosity following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, focused on giving to others after two days focused on shopping. “Supporters of the college's foundation are encouraged to show their support online and make a gift that will contribute to the success of more than 27,000 CSM students. Your investment in one of the college's programs will have a significant impact on the lives of our students for years to come,” Goodwin said.

Donations for the college may be directed online to Scholarships: Providing Access to Student Success, the Arts, STEM, Athletics, Nursing and Allied Health, or Career Starters. Students who benefit from scholarships include nursing student Dawn Drury, who said, “I am a single parent so for me I can't survive without scholarships or financial aid. The only way I can do well is by receiving financial assistance.”

Gifts can be made easily online or via text, according to CSM Development Director Martina Arnold, at http://www.csmd.edu/Foundation or by sending from a mobile phone the text Give CSM to 84465 to donate $10 (Terms: mGive.org/T). “Our supporters can be part of this national movement and are encouraged to make their gifts have a greater reach on #GivingTuesday by sharing http://www.csmd.edu/Foundation with their friends and family on social media and ask them to choose CSM on #GivingTuesday.”
