CSM Robotics Team Finalists in REC Foundation Competition

Talons Create Videos to Raise Awareness of STEM Education

The College of Southern Maryland’s Robotics Team, the Talons, were named finalists in the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation (RECF) 2014 Online Challenge.

To raise awareness of their team and upcoming competitions, the Talons created two videos. The video, “Autonomous Selector Switch,” was part of a challenge to teach a new robotics team something about robotics engineering that the Talons team learned from experience. Talons who participated in the making of the video are David Farrell of Newburg, Jonathan Frank of Indian Head, John Hamel of Mechanicsville and Emily Subocz of Waldorf.

The video, “An Electrifying Evening with the Arts & Sciences” was created with the help of CSM Digital Media Production student Lacy Davis, of Accokeek, and showed how the team is involved in community outreach. Both videos are posted on the VEX Robotics Competition’s website and can be viewed at http://forum.robotevents.com/design/challenge/detail/219.

Online Challenge winners will be announced March 5.

The Talons will be competing at the World Championship VEX U Robotics Challenge in Anaheim, Calif., on April 23 through April 26.
