CSM Presents Saxophonist Jeremy Koch, Pianist Yu-Hsuan Liao, April 12

Realism artist Philip Koch will exhibit his nature inspired pieces in CSM’s Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery located in the Fine Arts Center on the La Plata Campus

The College of Southern Maryland will showcase saxophonist Jeremy Koch and pianist Yu-Hsuan Liao as part of the Ward Virts Concert Series beginning at 3 p.m., April 12. This performance is the fifth of six in the series, all which are held at the Prince Frederick Campus, 115 J.W. Williams Road, Prince Frederick in the Multipurpose Room of Building B.

Koch is a saxophonist, chamber musician and teacher based in the Washington, D.C. area. He has been a member of the U.S. Air Force Band since 1998 and has performed with artists ranging from Tony Bennett to Wynonna Judd and Kool & the Gang. As a freelance saxophonist, Koch has performed with the U.S. Air Force Saxophone Quartet, Reed5, Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, D.C. Syndicate and Great Noise Ensemble.

Committed to teaching, he regularly presents clinics throughout the metropolitan area. He maintains a private studio in Northern Virginia and is an adjunct professor at Shepherd University and Northern Virginia Community College. In addition, he commissions and works with composers to expand the saxophone repertoire.

Koch has a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and received a Master of Music Performance degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

A native of Taiwan, Liao received her Doctoral of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She began her musical studies at Tung-Hai University, where she received her bachelor’s degree.

Liao is a piano soloist, collaborative artist and music educator. She has worked with the American Repertory Ensemble and performed piano solo and chamber music, and has accompanied vocalists in the company’s performance series.

Liao is involved in a number of music organizations, including West Virginia Music Teachers Association and Eastern Panhandle Music Teachers Association. She holds a National Certification for Teacher of Music from the Music Teachers National Association. A faculty member at Shepherd University, she regularly gives master classes in the metropolitan area.

The Ward Virts Concert Series is presented by sponsors Dr. and Mrs. Henry Virts, Edward and Patricia Mehosky, The Southern Maryland Chain Chapter of The Links, Inc., Stovy and Anne Brown, Exelon Generation-Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant and the CSM Foundation.
