Festival Features Performances, Workshop
The College of Southern Marylands Annual Latin Music Festival will give area residents a taste of Latin American culture April 10-11 with performances at the La Plata Campus, Fine Arts (FA) Center.
At 8 p.m., April 10, CSMs Latin Ensemble Ritmo Caché director Dr. Stephen Johnson will lead the group in Salsa, Mexican, Afro-Cuban, Merengue and other musical styles of Latin America. The ensemble consists of both student and community musicians who play drums, hand percussion, rhythm section, woodwind and brass instruments. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door.
The festival will continue with a free Latin music workshop at 6 p.m., April 11. The workshop, which is open to the public, will consist of a basic tutorial on Latin instruments and styles. The workshop will be followed at 8 p.m. with a free performance by The Presidents Own U.S. Marine Band Latin Jazz Combo.
