CSM Faculty, Staff Attend All-College Convocation, Aug. 16

Most administrative offices and services of the College of Southern Maryland will be unavailable the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 16 as faculty and administration gather for an All-College Convocation on CSM’s La Plata Campus. The Leonardtown and Prince Frederick campuses will close at 11 a.m. and the La Plata Campus will close at 11:45 a.m. Fitness centers and/or pools at each location will also close at 11 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., respectively. Personal enrichment classes and CSM’s St. Charles Children’s Learning Center will be operating on a normal schedule.

The convocation will bring together faculty and staff as one college to celebrate Transforming Lives: Excellence in Action.

“The faculty and staff take justifiable pride in transforming lives and advancing Southern Maryland families, organizations and businesses,” said CSM President Dr. Brad Gottfried. “Our employees educate and support more than 27,000 students annually. As a result, CSM serves as an economic engine adding more than $250 million to the region's economy. Our fourth annual All-College Convocation will focus on Excellence in Action—in our classrooms, in our business practices and within our community. It is a great opportunity for the entire team to gather to celebrate and collaborate.”

The day will showcase how each employee plays a vital role in student success, with an expo featuring all departments reflecting their initiatives toward student degree completion/student success. Breakout sessions will engage participants in discussions about excellence as reflected through the college’s Middle States re-accreditation.

Faculty and staff will participate in a service project to pack book bags for children in need. In coordination with Children’s Aid Society of Charles County the goal is to stuff 1,300 book bags.

During the All-College Convocation, online access will be available at www.csmd.edu and through my.CSMD services. Classes for the fall semester will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
