The College of Southern Marylands Foundation Golf Classic will celebrate its 21st year with the CSM Strong for a Stronger Southern Maryland campaign at Swan Point Yacht & Country Club, Aug. 16.
For more than 20 years the tournament has grown to become a signature event for CSM, raising more than $500,000 for students and programs offered at the college. The goal this year is to raise $40,000 for CSM Strong initiatives which includes athletics, trades and energy programs, STEM and student scholarships. Co-chairing the Golf Committee this year are Joe ONeill, of Raley, Watts & ONeill Insurance and Financial Services, and Michelle Aughinbaugh of St. Charles Companies.
I'm excited to be co-chair of this year's event. A successful tournament means that CSM can continue to provide a wealth of classes and other educational and higher learning opportunities that make for stronger communities in Southern Maryland. It's a pleasure and an honor to be a part of that, and I look forward to working with CSM staff and our entire committee to ensure that we have a great event, said Aughinbaugh.
The CSM Strong for a stronger Southern Maryland initiative hits home for me. It is vital that our community has a partner in the development of our most precious resource the people of our community, said ONeill. The college provides an overwhelming value to our community. CSM is a great way to start anyones higher education and I took advantage of the colleges services when I was just starting out of high school. The college was there for me when I needed it and now I am happy to reciprocate.
The tournament kicks off with breakfast sponsored by Burger King of Charles and St. Marys counties, beginning at 7:30 a.m. and is followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Lunch will be provided by Chick-fil-A of La Plata, along with a reception including prizes after the tournament concludes.
