
As part of the College of Southern Marylands Fall Connections Series, former Maryland Poet Laureate Michael Glaser will present an appreciation of his fellow Poet Laureate, the late Lucille Clifton, beginning at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 2, at the Leonardtown Campus, Building A, Auditorium.
Glaser will present the new collection of her lifes work, which he co-edited, as well as the poetry of others that were inspired by Clifton. A personal friend of Glasers, Clifton was the author of 10 books of poetry and 17 books for children. She was a professor of humanities at St. Marys College of Maryland, a chancellor of the Academy of American Poets, a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Science and the winner of the National Book Award, an Emmy and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Clifton passed away in 2010.
Glaser edited three anthologies and is the author of eight collections of poetry. He is a professor emeritus of English at St. Marys College of Maryland, founder of the Voices reading series, and a former chair of the Institute for Humanistic Education. Glaser is the recipient of the Homer Dodge Endowed Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Columbia Merit Award for service to poetry from the Poetry Committee of Greater Washington.
The Connections Series features award-winning contemporary writers, poets and artists who share their work with Southern Maryland residents.
