An Anti-Suffragist Makes Her Case

CSM Remembers the Struggle for Equality

Actress Barbara Callander presented “An Anti-Suffrage Monologue” at the College of Southern Maryland’s Leonardtown, La Plata and Prince Frederick campuses on March 15 as part of the college’s recognition of Women’s History Month. “An Anti-Suffrage Monologue,” a satirical look at why Americans opposed granting women the right to vote, was written in 1913 by Marie Jenney Howe to promote the passage of the 19th Amendment which granted women the right to vote in 1920.
