CSM Health Sciences Division Chair Dr. Laura Polk, right, presents the Spring 2013 Academic Achievement in Nursing Award to Michelle M. Parrott, of Prince Frederick. This award is given to the nursing graduate with the highest grade point average. “Michelle achieved a 3.83 GPA while completing CSM’s rigorous Associate of Science in Nursing degree program. However, Michelle is much more than just this number. While in the nursing program, Michelle continued to find time for a variety of community service activities including monthly dinners for residents of Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, and benefits for the Safe Harbor Women’s Shelter and Project Echo Homeless Shelter. In addition, Michelle provided peer support to other nursing students by organizing and leading study sessions throughout her time in the nursing program. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the National Student Nurses Association and the National Elks Foundation. Michelle is grateful for the support and encouragement she received throughout her journey and she is looking forward to working in the professional nursing role she has aspired to fill for a long time,” said Polk. Parrott was a recipient of the Southern Maryland Women's League Scholarship for the 2012-13 academic year.
