Sample Summer Camps May 17 in La Plata, June 7 in Leonardtown
The College of Southern Maryland will host Open Houses for children and parents interested in Kids and Teen College programming on May 17 in La Plata and June 7 in Leonardtown. Both events are designed to be interactive so that participants can sample the types of courses available.
With nearly 95 percent of all course offerings this summer new or revamped, we want to introduce families to what they can expect and look forward to this year, said CSM Youth Course Manager Jennifer Hamilton.
Course instructors for arts and crafts, theater, science, computers, cooking and sports, as well as representatives from Black Rocket Productions, providing equipment and expertise on creating apps, animation, making video games and music videos, will be available to share information about their classes and show samples of what they will be crafting during their classes.
On the La Plata Campus, youngsters can match their skill level in the obstacle courses on the gym floor, while parents watch from the mezzanine and learn about the course offerings from CSM staff and instructors. The open house will be from 9 a.m. to noon on May 17.
The Kids and Teen College Open House on the Leonardtown Campus will coincide with St. Marys County Raiders and Invaders Weekend, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., June 7. Activities for children include age-appropriate obstacle courses and four survival camps throughout the day with games and challenges. Lord of the Rings Survivor Camp is from 10 a.m. to noon, Hunger Games Survivor Camp is from noon to 2 p.m., Chronicles of Narnia Survivor Campus is from 2 to 4 p.m. and Star Wars Survivor Camp is from 4 to 6 p.m. Costumed characters will be visiting with participants throughout the day.
