Lady Hawks Set Record for Most Wins in a Season
The womens soccer team at the College of Southern Maryland earned its 100th win in its 16-year history on Oct. 16 by winning against Howard Community College, 3-0. Scoring all three goals for the Lady Hawks was Co-Captain Alysse Houston, a freshman from Hughesville, with two assists by Freshman Erin Kelly of Leonardtown and an assist by Freshman Sydney Williams of Waldorf.
Goalie Kelsey Major, who had six saves on the day, becomes the player with the most wins for the women's program at CSM. A second-year goalie from Waldorf, Major was recently recognized by the Maryland Junior College Conference (MDJUCO) as one of five student athletes of the month within the conference.
Head Coach Adam Sanchez said the Lady Hawks are in a record-breaking season, at 10-3-1 and setting a record for wins in a season.
These ladies have been impressive in setting a new standard for us, said Sanchez. Theyve set some high goals for themselves and they are working hard toward them, and achieving them. They should be given a lot of credit for setting these high standards and for representing themselves, their team and CSM in such a positive way.
The Lady Hawks last regular game on the season will be on their home field on the La Plata Campus, beginning at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19. They will be contending for the MDJUCO championship before heading into Region XX tournament action at Harford Community College beginning the week of Oct. 23.
