CSM Massage Therapy Students Provide a Respite from Debate

College of Southern Maryland Professor and Massage Therapy Program Coordinator Tara McManaway, center, is joined by second-semester students, from left, Bridget Todd, Miranda Jones, Elizabeth Landmann, Joshua Raleigh, Bernice Burroughs, Melinda Scott and Kara Wallace, at the annual American Massage Therapy Association’s (AMTA) Maryland Legislative Awareness Day in Annapolis, Feb. 11. Students provided seated massage to people who work in the Maryland legislature, including state senators and delegates and their staffs. “The event provides an opportunity for students to meet legislators, aides and lobbyists and learn about the role of professional organizations in legislative activities, as well as to network with massage therapists from across the state,” said McManaway. “It helps them to understand that they are more than just a single massage student, but part of a large, vital and growing profession.” CSM’s Massage Therapy Program has a 100 percent pass rate for all the licensing exams for the last six years.
