CSM Cause Theatre presents What I Want to Say But Never Will, an exploration of what is on the minds of our nations teenagers. With performances on all three campuses, the curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 10 and at 8 p.m., Oct. 11 and 12 at the Fine Arts Center on the La Plata Campus; at 8 p.m., Oct. 17 in Building A, PFA-119 on the Prince Frederick Campus; and at 8 p.m., Oct. 18 in Building A, Auditorium on the Leonardtown Campus.
The show answers the question; if you could say anything you wanted, without any consequences or judgment, just what would you say? Written by Alan Haehnel in 2010, the play is based on student responses from around the country and told through monologues and anecdotes from the playwright himself. These confessions range from a hilarious rant on an art teacher's bad breath to a touching piece of advice from a brother leaving for the Navy.
“This is a show that explores the internal problems of teenagers. Be prepared for an emotional experience, says CSMs Student Director Danielle LeDoux of Indian Head. Casting includes Taejiana Curtis of Waldorf as Deb, Isabel Pope of Waldorf as Jeanie, Sean Smith of Waldorf as Mr. Alan, Horace Brandon Jones of Cheltenham as Ben, Jacob LeJeune of California as Max and Alexis Miller of Gambrills as Shelley. Jamie Burroughs of Mechanicsville is the stage manager and Kaytlin Medley of Waldorf is the understudy for all female roles.
The Cause Theatre program produces challenging and timely theater pieces that address social and health issues. This program provides a unique forum in which audience members are encouraged to consider how subtle and not-so-subtle attitudes and behaviors affect experiences and actions.
Cause Theatre offers several shows per semester, each addressing a different topic ranging from health concerns such as substance abuse, sexual health and body image to social issues such as sexual orientation, racism, womens issues and sexual assault, and suicide. Each performance, bringing to light a different social issue, is designed to be informative and challenging.
Upcoming Cause Theatre productions include Reentry in February and But I Said No in March, dealing with the social issues of returning veterans and acquaintance rape, respectively.
