CSM Cause Theatre Announces Cast for ‘The Empty Chair,’ Jan. 25 – Feb. 9

The College of Southern Maryland’s Theatre Company announces its cast for the Cause Theatre production of “The Empty Chair,” a play by Tim Kelly and produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc.

The setting is a counseling center for teenagers suffering from substance abuse. One of their peers, Robert, has just died from an overdose. The question on everyone’s mind is whether it was an accident or suicide, causing the atmosphere to be tense and uneasy. Finally each young person speaks about his or her memory of Robert The dramatic monologues tells us a great deal about each speaker and the terrors of drug abuse. Although Robert remains something of a mystery, his impact on the others is undeniable.

CSM’s Cause Theatre offers several touring shows per semester, each bringing to light a different social issue, designed to be informative and challenging. Each is followed by a facilitated discussion. “The Empty Chair,” presents the issue of suicide.

CSM’s “The Empty Chair” is comprised of an ensemble cast in which each of the actors play members of a counseling center for teenagers who are recovering from substance abuse. Cast includes Charles Watley and Marleigh Ferguson, both of Charlotte Hall; Laura Stephens and Simone Hanna, both of Waldorf; Danielle LeDoux of Indian Head; Brandon Jones of Cheltenham, Alexis Miller of Crofton and Taylor Scott Hines of White Plains.

Performances are Jan. 25 on the Prince Frederick Campus; Jan. 31-Feb. 2 on the Leonardtown Campus, Building A, Auditorium; Feb. 7-9 on the La Plata Campus, Black Box Theatre, Room FA-143, all showing at 8 p.m. Not suitable for younger audiences.
