Lelia Allen, a former Maryland State Board of Education member and professor of psychology at the College of Southern Maryland, is the latest Celebrity Reader at the St. Charles Childrens Learning Center at CSM. Allen read Corduroy by Don Freeman and The Wizard by Jack Kent to more than two dozen 3-and 4- year olds. Reading is fundamental to being successful in life, and when you read to children at an early age it can create a life-long love of reading, said Allen. Enjoying the books with Allen are, from left, Joaquina Robinson, Christopher Greene, Amanda Williams, Cameron Thompson and Chloe Taber. CSM features Celebrity Readers throughout the year to help promote a love of reading with its youngest students. The St. Charles Childrens Learning Center provides quality childcare and a safe learning environment for the children of students, faculty, staff and community. The center is currently enrolling students for its summer day camp, for ages 2 through 12. For information, visit http://www.csmd.edu/clc/
