Presentation, Book Signing by Author Dr. James I. Bud Robertson
The Southern Maryland Civil War Roundtable (SMCWR) will host a presentation by noted Civil War author Dr. James I. Bud Robertson on his book The Untold Stories of the Civil War, Exploring the Human Side of the War, beginning with a book signing at 6:15 p.m. and lecture at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10 at the College of Southern Marylands La Plata Campus.
Robertson, alumni distinguished professor emeritus at Virginia Tech, is the author of more than 20 books including Stonewall Jackson, the Man, the Myth and the Legend, Civil War!, America Becomes One Nation, General A. P. Hill and Soldiers Blue and Gray.
A native of Danville, Va., Robertson is one of the most distinguished scholars in Civil War history, said CSM President Dr. Brad Gottfried, the president of the SMCWR and a Civil War author. Robertsons biography of Stonewall Jackson won eight national awards and was the basis for the movie Gods and Generals, with Robertson as chief historical consultant for the film.
Early in his career, Robertson was appointed executive of the U.S. Civil War Centennial Commission by President John F. Kennedy. A graduate of Virginia Tech, Robertson has taught at the university for more than 40 years. His Civil War era course at Virginia Tech, attracting 300 students per semester, is considered the largest of its kind in the nation.
Robertsons presentation is sponsored by the SMCWR and the Annapolis Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association.
