CSM joins Calvert County Healthcare Partnership in Presenting Career Opportunities, Paths in Health Care Field
Ever since I was little I wanted to be a pediatrician, to help children, said Kayla Miles, 19, a freshman at the College of Southern Maryland. When her grandfather spent a few months in the hospital, Miles had an opportunity to observe doctors and nurses in action and she liked what she saw. I liked the hospital atmosphere.
Now taking classes required to petition for entry in CSMs nursing program, Miles said that she decided on CSMs nursing program after attending an information session at the college last year.
The College of Southern Maryland, celebrating Health Care Career Awareness Month, in partnership with the Calvert County Healthcare Partnership will host a Health Care Expo on Thursday, Oct. 22 at the Calvert County Library in Prince Frederick from 4 to 8 p.m.
The theme of the expo is Discover, Dig, Decide and Do. CSM staff along with many other organizations will be available to assist with career exploration (Discover) and to provide information about health care majors (Dig). Once participants have learned about the variety of career opportunities, they can choose between credit and non-credit options (Decide) and begin their path to a career in the heath care field (Do!).
Participants will be able to learn about career paths and high demand jobs in health care from Calvert Countys leading employers, and the educational requirements necessary to apply for those jobs.
The event is co-sponsored by the several organizations through the Calvert County Healthcare Partnership which includes staff from CSM, Calvert Memorial Hospital, Calvert County Department of Economic Development, Calvert Department of Social Services, Calvert Health Department, Tri-County Council of Southern Maryland, Calvert EMS, Calvert County Public Schools, Calvert Hospice, the Calvert County Public Library, and many others.
