CSM Introduces Mass Electronic Notification Service

Emergency and campus closing information is just a text message away as the College of Southern Maryland partners with e2Campus to provide students with immediate, emergency notification and campus closing information through mass notification on their cell phones or by e-mail, starting Nov. 1.

CSM.TXT messaging service, offered through e2Campus,™ is a free service that allows users to receive emergency information and campus closing messages directly on their mobile phone, BlackBerry, wireless PDA, pager, e-mail and other electronic media platforms.

According to Priscilla Stevens, director of CSM’s public safety department, recent campus emergencies nationwide have demonstrated why colleges need to provide up-to-date and accurate safety information to the community. “CSM.TXT is just one of the steps the college is undertaking to improve security on our campuses. CSM.TXT will allow the college to provide information directly, so our students and the community will be able to receive accurate and timely information,” said Stevens.

To activate an account, visit or CSM.TXT registration kiosks at the La Plata, Leonardtown and Prince Frederick campuses Nov. 1 and 5. Registration is free. Standard text messaging charges may apply, based on the recipient’s mobile/media service.

Students registering by Dec. 15 will be entered into a drawing for one of three Ipod® Nanos. Registration begins Nov. 1.
