Walt Wiseman (DeMatha) leads the 2012 College of Southern Maryland golf team as the only returning National Championship qualifier. As team captain, he is setting his sights on a return to the national stage. Wiseman played extensively as an amateur over the 2011 summer and enters this campaign as a more seasoned tournament player. Matt Richards (Leonardtown) also returns to this year’s squad motivated to avenge last year’s performance at Rocky Gap's Jack Nicklaus course in the Region XX Championship and advance in his sophomore year to the Nationals.

The team has three first-year players rounding out the group. Alex Brown (Westlake) brings his golf game to the collegiate level after starting for Westlake High School last year, Brad Tennyson (Chopticon) is working to improve his short game skills to match his impressive ball striking abilities to compete nationally and Andrew Turgeon (Northern) looking to add golf to his Junior League Hockey All-Star credentials.

“The team should contend as co-favorites with Harford for the Maryland Junior College (MDJUCO) championship and has an uphill battle to wrest the Region XX title from Potomac State. Wiseman should contend for the national title and will be in the running to be an all-American and with his strong scholastic efforts could end up as an academic all-American,” said CSM Head Golf Coach Ned Spearbeck.
